About the Broadway Student Dance Summit
A sample list of workshops for the Broadway Student Dance Summit:
BROADWAY COMBINATION CLASS
Working with dancers from the Broadway company of HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING, students will learn and polish a combination from the show.
BROADWAY TAP
This class will focus on a tap combination from the Tony Award winning revival of ANYTHING GOES. Students will work with dancers from the Broadway cast, who will recreate the process of first learning the show.
BROADWAY BALLET
This class will focus on a ballet combination from a show currently playing on Broadway. Students will learn and work with dancers from that show to learn, analyze and hone their ballet skills as they relate to Broadway.
HIP HOP
Hip Hop is a growing part of the Broadway dance scene. This workshop will feature a combination that illustrates the important influence this genre is having on the Great White Way.
CHOREOGRAPHY
What makes a good piece of choreography? This class will break down the basics and discuss techniques for creating choreography. A vocabulary of steps, character and plot will all be discussed.
SINGING FOR DANCERS
Gone is the day where shows could hire separate singing and dancing choruses. This workshop will help dancers embrace their singing voices and offer practical tips for auditions, song choice and vocal technique.
OPEN CALL
This mock dance audition will give students the opportunity to experience a Broadway chorus call. They will learn a short combination and present it to the choreographer for constructive feedback.
MEET THE PERFORMERS!
An intimate conversation with Broadway’s best and brightest young dancers, who talk about their journey from high school to Broadway. They will discuss training options, classes, auditions and more!
ADJUDICATION
For those who are coming as part of a group, this session will give the dancers an opportunity to present a choreographed piece to a panel of dance theatre professionals for constructive feedback. (Optional)
